Spirit of SPARC
Monday, May 24, 2010
Mr. Mohammad Muzaffar Ali (MMA), initiator and co-founder of SPARC (Society for the Promotion of Art and Culture) and an inspiration for a whole generation of journalists, passed away after a long illness on March 5, 2010. Inspite of all the stress of his journalistic tasks, he was always available for events and special projects together with his colleague Mr. Anees Yaqub and other members of the SPARC team.
These projects also included LIFE (Lahore International Festival for Edutainment), which took place from 1994 till 1996 in the Alhamra Art Gallery in Lahore and in 1997 in Berlin, Germany on the occasion of 50th anniversary of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan with one of the first CD's about Pakistani artists represented in the House of Cultures of the World.
The festival represented depiction of deeply traditional culture in the sub-continent as well as digital art, this at a time, when the local teaching institutions were still far from the using digital media.
Regarding the traditional culture, a connection was also forged with a local NGO, the Anjuman-e-Falah-e-Aama, which supports the maintenance of traditional values for example by using local and traditional construction materials like mud, paving the way for the current Mud Housing Project of SPARC.
